Visiting Fellows Program

The visiting fellows program is a core component of SweCSS

The center aims to build lasting ties between the social and the computational sciences by creating new and exciting research constellations among computational social scientists. The visiting fellows program is a core component of this vision.

Thanks to a generous grant from the Swedish Research Council, the visiting fellows program access to the research infrastructure of SweCSS, including data and research support, as well as membership in the vibrant SweCSS community. The program will run for 2024–2028 and applications are processed continuously.

Visiting Fellows Program

We provide research stays of 1-6 weeks for researchers interested in establishing a long-term, collaboration with SweCSS. For successful candidates, SweCSS will cover housing and travel expenses for the duration of the fellowship.

Priority will be given to scholars whose research interests overlap with other researchers at the Institute for Analytical Sociology (IAS) and the Department of Computer and Information Science (IDA), those interested in exploring potential collaborative projects at Linköping University, and those opting for longer visits.

Research fellows will be provided with office space either at IDA on the lively Linköping campus or at IAS on the picturesque Norrköping campus, as well as access to university facilities. Both campuses are easily accessible by train from Stockholm.

Research fellows are expected to participate in weekly activities such as workshops and research seminars with international guests as well as an annual SweCSS workshop bringing together current and past affiliates. Proposals that describe joint research papers or projects to be housed at SweCSS are especially welcome. Our goal is to create synergies between SweCSS participants that will benefit the researchers and students at the SweCSS and the field of computational social science at large.

SweCSS Visiting Scholars – Spring 2025

  • , previously from Uppsala University, will officially start a two-year postdoc at SweCSS from the 1st of March.
  •  from University of Stuttgart, Germany will give a presentation at IDA on the 28th of February 13:15. The talk will take place on in Alan Turing () on Campus Valla and Zoom (). The topic of the talk is "Extraction of Party Positions from Political Texts".
  •  from Boston University will visit IAS from the 21st to the 25th of April and potentially again in mid-May.
  • : is an Associate Professor of Sociology and Cognitive Science at Lehigh University. He will visit from the 28th of April to the 25th of May.  
  • is an associate professor of sociology at New Mexico State University. He will visit from the 5th to the 25th of May.
  • is a postdoc at the University of Mannheim. She will visit and present her work on the 15th of May 14:00 –15:30. “Using AI-Generated Images in Vignette Experiments: An Application with Crime Scenarios”.
  •  will join for the 11th International Conference on Computational Social Science () from the 21st to the 24th of July. She will stay then start the next period of her SweCSS fellowship from mid/late August-mid/late September.
