Robert Aman

Senior Associate Professor

Robert Aman is a senior associate professor of education. He completed his PhD at Linköping University (2014) and has previously been a lecturer at the University of Glasgow (2015-2017) as well as a visiting researcher at Duke University (2010), University of Oxford (2013), Sciences Po Paris (2015), Ghent University (2021), and Université Bordeaux-Montaigne (2025).

He is the author of several monographs, including Kamrat Bamse: Revolution och klasskamp i 70-talets svenska serier (Verbal, 2026), New Left Comics: Revolution, Socialism, and International Solidarity in Swedish Comics. (Routledge, 2026), Serier för vuxna: Epix och den svenska serierevolutionen (Lystring, 2024), När Fantomen blev svensk: världsbild i trikå (Daidalos, 2022), The Phantom Comics and the New Left: a Socialist Superhero (Palgrave, 2020), Decolonising Intercultural ÌÇÐÄÍøÒ³°æ: Colonial Difference, the Geopolitics of Knowledge, and Inter-Epistemic Dialogue (Routledge, 2017) och Impossible Interculturality?: ÌÇÐÄÍøÒ³°æ and the Colonial Difference in a Multicultural World (Linköping University Press, 2014). Additionally, he has edited several scholarly edited collections on comics art and interculturality

Research on comic art

Aman’s research is distinctly interdisciplinary and is based in critical cultural theory. He primarily research comic art. Aman has contributed several research articles exploring the connection between colonialism and representation in American, Belgian, and Swedish comics. But also on how the leftist wave of the 1970s in Swedish society influenced comics art, as well as on Swedish publishing history and the breakthrough of adult comics.

Comics contribute to norm-critical discussions in the classroom

His current project studies how comics can be used as a classroom resource to facilitate norm-critical discussions. The project is funded by the Swedish Research Council.

In addition to his research on comics, he has published numerous articles on interculturality and intercultural education, indigenous movements in Latin America, multiculturalism, epistemic racism, and migration.
