Carl-Fredrik Mandenius

Presentation

Carl-Fredrik Mandenius is emeritus professor in engineering biology at Linköping University. He is M.Eng. and D.Eng. in applied biochemistry and biotechnology from Lund University. He has been heading the Biotechnology Division at IFM between 1999 and 2022. His research is focused on bioengineering design in education, research, and industrial development. Specific interests are in bioprocess monitoring, stem cell technology, and mathematical modelling of biological systems in bioprocessing and medicine. Mandenius is also much involved in editorship in engineering biology.

New gel for liver cell culture on microchips

Scientists at LiU have developed a hydrogel, that have properties similar to the natural environment of cells in the body. It can be adapted to the requirements of difficult-to-culture cell types, and to produce organ-like structures on a microchip.
